Teaching Tips for Key Stage 1

 

• Use chants/rhymes, eg Boom Chicka Boom to encourage engagement and collective response

• Start with simple, limited range songs, eg Mi-So for pitch awareness then gradually extend

• Teach using 'Call and Response' for listening, pitch-matching and confidence building

• Play singing games to create sense of pulse and turn taking

• Use actions to aid memory and co-ordinate movement
